About Us: The Blairstown Historic Preservation Committee (BHPC) is a sub-committee of the Blairstown Township Committee. We were established in 2001 thanks to the efforts of the two of our town's history advocates; the late Mayor of Blairstown, Anita Ardia, and Blairstown Historian the late Helen Hall. Members are volunteers and are appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Township Committee. The BHPC performs advisory, educational and informational functions that will promote historic preservation in the municipality.

Through BHPC's FREE events, lectures, walking tours, displays, and traveling exhibits, we create awareness of our local history with the community, schools, and civic organizations.  We also collaborate and share information with neighboring historic societies and commissions in Warren County.

Accomplishments that have been achieved by our committee over the years include: the inclusion of the village of Blairstown on the State and National Registry of Historic Places (includes 177 structures in the historic district); grounds and headstone restoration at the Gravel Hill Cemetery (adjacent to Blair Academy and Main Street); and the establishment of informational plaques placed on the landmark buildings of Blairstown's historic Main Street.

Residents and visitors are welcome to take one of our free guided walking tours held throughout the year or stroll along Main Street and take a self-guided walking tour of the historic district. Walking tour maps are available at the Municipal Building, library, and businesses throughout the town.  Our artifacts are acquired through donations and are housed and displayed at the Blairstown Municipal Building, 106 Rt. 94, Blairstown, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Special arrangements can be made for viewing displays outside of normal operating hours, arranging group walking tours, and making artifact donations by contacting us through the avenues listed.

Want To Donate?

The BHPC is accepting donations of artifacts to be placed into historic preservation. We are stewards of history for Blairstown and, as such, all donations become the property of the citizens of Blairstown and are kept in perpetuity for generations to come.

Any queries regarding donations must be made by contacting the BHPC directly via one of the avenues provided below under the Contact Us section of this page. We can then arrange for drop off of donations at the Municipal Building.

NOTE: The BHPC is not affiliated with any business,  entity, or museum. We are a government organization.
